Hope & perseverance
Hope for the next small step
A reflection on continuing in love when doing good feels quiet, slow, and unseen.
“Let’s not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season if we don’t give up.”
World English Bible (WEB)
Faithfulness can be quiet
Some good things grow without much attention. A parent keeps listening. A friend keeps checking in. Someone makes an honest choice at work, offers forgiveness, or prepares a meal for a neighbour. These actions may never become a remarkable story, yet they can express the love of Christ in ordinary life.
Paul's encouragement in Galatians acknowledges that doing good can become tiring. There would be little need to speak about weariness if faithful people never felt it. Feeling discouraged does not make our previous care meaningless. It can be an invitation to seek God's strength and consider how to continue wisely.
Let hope shape the pace
The image of a harvest reminds us that growth takes time. We do not control another person's response, and we cannot insist that every act of kindness produce an immediate result. This verse is encouragement to persevere in doing good; it is not a promise of wealth, applause, or the particular outcome we prefer.
Perseverance also needs a sustainable pace. We can share responsibilities, ask for help, and make room for rest. A boundary that allows us to care faithfully over time can be wiser than an exhausted yes to every request. We bring both our willingness and our limits to the Lord, asking Him to guide us.
Choose one act of love
Instead of asking how to repair everything, we might ask where God has given us an opportunity today. A message of encouragement, an apology without excuses, or an attentive conversation may be enough for the next step. We do not need to perform kindness for an audience. We can offer it gratefully to God.
When hope feels faint, remember that the call to do good is shared. Christian community gives us people with whom to pray, serve, learn, and begin again. Thank God for the people whose steady care has helped you. Their example may remind you that love often bears fruit through patient, ordinary faithfulness.

TURN TOWARD GOD
A short prayer
Faithful God, thank You for every kindness You have placed along my path. Renew my willingness to do good. Teach me to serve with patience, to rest with humility, and to leave the results in Your hands. Through Jesus Christ, amen.
