God's love & grace
Grace that we receive
God's grace invites us to receive His gift in Christ and respond with gratitude, humility, and love.
“for by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,”
World English Bible (WEB)
Begin with God's generosity
Much of daily life teaches us to prove ourselves. We work for a qualification, try to meet an expectation, or compare our progress with someone else's. It is easy to bring that same habit into faith and imagine that God's welcome depends on a flawless record.
Ephesians points us toward grace. Salvation is described as God's gift, received through faith. The centre of the Christian message is what God has done in Jesus Christ. We are invited to turn to Him with trust, rather than present a list of achievements that could place Him in our debt.
Let gratitude become a response
A gift changes the direction of our attention. We look toward the giver with thankfulness. In prayer, we can thank God for His mercy, confess where we have fallen short, and ask Him to shape the life we now live. We need not hide our need in order to be grateful.
Grace does not make our choices unimportant. The passage goes on to speak of good works as part of the life for which God has created believers in Christ. Love, honesty, generosity, and compassion can become responses to His kindness. They are not a price paid to purchase His grace.
Make room for humility and love
Remembering grace can soften the way we see other people. If our hope rests in God's mercy, there is little room for treating another person's struggle with contempt. We can hold to what is true while listening carefully, offering help respectfully, and admitting our own need for forgiveness.
If you are exploring Christianity, you do not need to know every answer before you begin asking questions. Read the wider passage, speak with a trusted Christian or local church, and bring your questions honestly to God. The invitation is to discover Jesus and the mercy made known through Him.
Today, let one brief prayer of thanks interrupt the pressure to prove yourself. Ask that gratitude would become visible in one patient word or generous action. Giving God the glory can begin in the ordinary way we receive His kindness and share it.
TAKE A MOMENT
A question for reflection
How might remembering God's gift change the way you treat yourself or someone else today?
A simple practice
Name one reason to thank God, then choose one way to show someone the patience you have needed yourself.
TURN TOWARD GOD
A short prayer
Merciful Father, thank You for Your gift of grace through Jesus Christ. Forgive my pride and my attempts to earn what You freely give. Teach me to trust You, receive Your mercy with gratitude, and share Your love in the life before me. Amen.
